We’re Here to Support You

We understand that every baby, every parent and every feeding journey is different. Below you’ll find answers to some of the questions we’re most commonly asked. If you can’t find the information you’re looking for, please don’t hesitate to get in touch – we’re always happy to help.

Do I need a referral to book an appointment?2026-07-23T08:03:54+01:00

No. You can book directly with The Little Latch Company without a referral from your GP, midwife or health visitor.

What feeding methods do you support?2026-07-23T08:04:15+01:00

We support all feeding journeys, including breastfeeding, bottle feeding, expressing, mixed feeding and preparing to introduce solid foods. Our advice is evidence-based, personalised and completely non-judgemental.

When should I seek feeding support?2026-07-23T08:04:37+01:00

You can seek support at any stage of your feeding journey. Some families book an antenatal appointment during pregnancy, while others come to us after their baby is born if they’re experiencing challenges such as painful feeding, latch difficulties, concerns about milk supply, bottle feeding issues or simply want reassurance.

What happens during a feeding consultation?2026-08-06T12:05:23+01:00

Our consultations are tailored to your family’s individual needs. During your appointment we will:

  • Listen carefully to your concerns and feeding goals
  • Take a detailed feeding and medical history
  • Observe a full feed
  • Assess your baby’s feeding skills and behaviour
  • Provide personalised, evidence-based advice
  • Create a practical feeding plan that works for your family
  • Answer any questions you may have

Our aim is to help you feel informed, confident and supported.

How do I know if my baby has a tongue tie?2026-08-06T12:07:38+01:00

Some babies with tongue tie feed well, while others experience difficulties. Common signs can include:

  • Difficulty latching to the breast or bottle
  • Clicking noises during feeds
  • Dribbling milk
  • Long or frequent feeding sessions
  • Poor weight gain
  • Excessive wind or reflux-like symptoms

For breastfeeding parents, signs may include sore nipples, painful feeds, blocked ducts, mastitis or concerns about milk supply.

Many of these symptoms can have causes other than tongue tie, which is why support by experienced infant feeding specialists is so important.

Does every tongue tie need to be treated?2026-07-23T08:06:28+01:00

No. Not every tongue tie causes feeding difficulties, and not every baby with a tongue tie requires treatment.

Our assessments focus on how your baby’s tongue is functioning during feeding, rather than simply how it looks. If a tongue tie is not affecting feeding, treatment may not be necessary.

What is a frenulotomy?2026-08-06T12:08:11+01:00

A frenulotomy (tongue tie division) is a quick procedure that releases the restrictive frenulum beneath the tongue, allowing greater tongue movement where appropriate.

If a frenulotomy might be appropriate for your baby, we will explain:

  • The potential benefits
  • Any risks or limitations
  • Alternative options
  • What to expect during and after the procedure

You’ll always have the information you need to make the decision that’s right for your family.

Is a tongue tie procedure safe?2026-07-23T08:07:17+01:00

A frenulotomy is a well-established procedure when carried out by appropriately trained practitioners. Before recommending treatment, we’ll complete a thorough assessment and discuss the potential benefits and risks so you can make an informed decision.

Will I receive support after a tongue tie procedure?2026-08-06T12:09:14+01:00

Yes. Our support doesn’t end after treatment.

We provide guidance on feeding, healing and ongoing tongue function, as well as a written feeding plan to help you and your baby adjust after the procedure. Two weeks of follow-up support online is included so you can ask any questions, and we will check in with you a week after your appointment.

Can you help before my baby is born?2026-07-23T08:07:54+01:00

Absolutely. Our antenatal feeding appointments are designed to help you prepare for your baby’s arrival by covering topics such as breastfeeding, bottle feeding, colostrum harvesting, expressing, responsive feeding and what to expect during the early days with your newborn.

Can you help with bottle feeding as well as breastfeeding?2026-07-23T08:08:17+01:00

Yes. We support families who breastfeed, bottle feed, express or use a combination of feeding methods. Our goal is to help you feed your baby comfortably, safely and confidently, whatever your chosen approach.

How long does an appointment last?2026-07-23T08:08:33+01:00

Appointment lengths vary depending on the type of consultation and the support you need. We allow plenty of time to understand your concerns, assess feeding where appropriate and answer all of your questions without feeling rushed.

How should I prepare for my appointment?2026-08-06T12:11:22+01:00

Please have available anything you are currently using for feeding (bottles, nipple shields, some expressed milk or formula, etc).

Your baby’s red book is helpful, especially if weight has been a concern. If possible, try to avoid feeding your baby immediately before your appointment so we can observe a feed if needed.

If you’re attending an antenatal consultation, simply bring any questions or concerns you’d like to discuss.

How do I book an appointment?2026-07-23T08:09:30+01:00

Booking an appointment is simple. You can contact The Little Latch Company directly to arrange a consultation at a time that suits you. If you’re unsure which appointment is right for you, we’ll be happy to help you choose the most appropriate option.

I understand going private for these procedures is a privilege but it also significantly reduces wait times. Our baby boy was never checked by NHS so it was just mother instinct that made me get him checked. Coming into your own home makes you & baby feel more at ease. Paula & Diana didn’t rush us to make any decisions and talked us through everything.
As first time parents they didn’t make you feel stupid for not knowing everything. They made us feel more informed. I also like the fact that if you chose not to have the division you would be part refunded- something not alot of places offer. Thanks Ladies!

Paula gave me great advice and was compassionate over the phone. I didn’t end up needing to schedule an appointment because our nhs appointment was moved up, but I really appreciated that she’d have come as quickly as possible including at the weekend and was very professional.

I cannot thank Paula and Laura enough for the service provided and the speed in which they were able to respond to our request. They were able be with us at home within 24 hours of contacting them to perform the procedure - showing just how much they understood the importance of their services to us. We felt this went above and beyond helping us be able to feed our son and we are truly very grateful! Everything was carefully explained and their professionalism, knowledge and skill showed throughout every step. They both provided great reassurance throughout and made the process as smooth and comfortable as could be. Their support with breastfeeding and the after care could also not be faulted. I would not hesitate in recommending them to anyone - they saved our breastfeeding journey and we could not be happier!!
We welcomed our 3rd baby last week and quite quickly breastfeeding became painful. The Midwifes at hospital identified a severe tongue tie just before we were sent home and they advised that it could take a couple of weeks for it to be sorted through the NHS. I searched the official tongue tie register and found the little latch company and got in touch straight away. Laura responded really promptly, arranged a call that day, and then she also managed to arrange a home visit for the same day. I was absolutely over the moon - feeding had become so painful and I was dreading each feed. Having been through something similar with our first baby, I was determined for us to sort this sooner rather than later. Laura and Paula were kind, clearly experienced, and very reassuring about the frenulotomy and all the feeding advise they gave us. We couldn’t be happier and feeding has been much less painful since they came over. Thank you so much for the prompt help and for helping us to continue with our breastfeeding journey - it means the world. Kate

We had such a wonderful experience with The Little Latch Company. We were struggling with my baby’s latch/clicking noises when feeding and I was concerned about whether he had a tongue tie. I contacted them on a Sunday and within hours I was on the phone to Laura who provided advice. Paula came round the day after in the morning so it was super quick. They were both incredibly helpful, informative, and genuinely supportive. I highly recommend The Little Latch Company to any parent looking for compassionate, knowledgeable support during their feeding journey. They’ve made such a positive impact on our experience, and we are so grateful for their support and advice.

I cannot recommend Laura and Paula highly enough. From the very first moment we met them, their professionalism, warmth, and genuine care were evident. They supported me through my son’s tongue tie procedure with such gentleness and precision that I immediately felt I was in the safest hands possible. Their accuracy and attention to detail were incredible, and they took the time to explain everything clearly, which made such a difference when I was feeling anxious and overwhelmed.

Their knowledge in the field of babies, lactation, and feeding is truly exceptional. Every piece of advice they gave was thoughtful, evidence-based, and tailored specifically to my son’s needs. They didn’t just resolve the immediate issue — they also guided me through feeding support and even recommended other procedures he might benefit from, which showed how deeply they care about long-term wellbeing rather than quick fixes.

Most importantly, they have such a calming presence. Whenever I felt worried or unsure, they reassured me with kindness and confidence, and that emotional support meant the world during a stressful time. Their gentle approach with my son was beautiful to witness, and it was clear they treat every baby as if they were their own.

Their service is absolutely worth every penny we spent, and I am beyond grateful for everything they’ve done for our family. If you’re considering support for your baby, you truly could not be in better hands.

They booked us in within 24 hours which was great, they also came out to us in our own home. This made us and baby really comfortable. They brought all their equipment with them to carry out all the checks.
They were also very particular with hygiene and infection control. They washed their hands and used gloves, all equipment was sterlisied.
Would definitely recommend them to everyone!

We contacted Paula after encountering some challenges a few months into our breastfeeding journey when our daughter was 4 months old. Paula helped organise a virtual consultation at short notice where she could observe a feed via video call and give us advice on how to improve our daughter’s latch and quality of feeds. Paula’s expertise as an experienced midwife and lactation consultant was invaluable and helped reassure me that what we were experiencing was normal. Our session really helped restore some of my lost confidence in breastfeeding. Paula gave us practical things to try out to help going forward, whilst being realistic about what improvements to expect and explained the possible reasons for what we were experiencing.
Thank you for your knowledgeable support at short notice. I’m thrilled that I’ve been able to continue exclusively breastfeeding our baby and enjoy the unique special bond with our baby girl that this brings.

I was recommended The Little Latch Company by some of the ladies I’d met in my antenatal classes who had positive experiences with Paula and Laura. I felt supported right away with their quick reply and understanding of what I was experiencing. It was amazing to be seen within 24 hours of initiating contact! It’s so lovely to be seen in your own home and to be able to show how you breastfeed in your actual day to day environment. I had a very positive experience and felt so comfortable with Laura. Looking forward to putting the plan to action and carrying on with the breastfeeding journey! Thank you very much for your expertise :)

Paula provided outstanding care and support during our consultation regarding infant feeding concerns.

From the outset, she demonstrated exceptional clinical expertise and empathy. Her thorough assessment of our baby’s feeding difficulties and clear explanation of tongue-tie and its implications were both reassuring and informative. She created a calm and supportive environment, allowing us to feel confident in the decision-making process.

The frenulotomy procedure was carried out with professionalism and sensitivity. They ensured we were fully informed about the procedure, its risks and benefits, and post-procedure care. Her gentle approach and attention were deeply appreciated.

Paula was always very approachable and we were grateful for the positive impact this had on both our baby’s wellbeing and our overall feeding experience.

We felt fortunate to have had Paula as part of the team that provided us with such high-quality, person-centred care.
